Content and Trigger Warning for Dutch (Kingsnakes MC #1)

Before you ride with the Kingsnakes

Dutch is book one of the Kingsnakes MC series, and it is exactly what it looks like: an outlaw motorcycle club, a border-town gun deal gone sideways, and one very stubborn insurance investigator who should have gone home the first day. It is a romance first, and Dutch and Reagan get their happily ever after. But the road there runs through cartel country, and I want you to know what's on it before you get on the bike.

This list is spoiler-light. I've kept it to the categories a reader might need to know about, without telling you who does what to whom. If you want the fully spoiled version for a specific concern, email me and I'll tell you straight.

Content warnings

Violence and danger

  • Gun violence, including an on-page shootout and a character being shot (non-fatal)

  • On-page death of secondary characters, and a death that is covered up as an accident

  • Kidnapping and being held against your will (the heroine, zip-tied, for one night; she is not physically harmed beyond restraint injuries)

  • A home invasion with doors kicked in

  • A truck hijacking and a burned-out rig

  • Injuries to club members: a leg wound, cracked ribs, a shrapnel wound, a shoulder wound

Organized crime

  • Gun-running and a cartel arms deal

  • Cartel intimidation and threats against a family and a business

  • Insurance fraud and a criminal cover-up

  • A club vote that removes its president; betrayal by a trusted member

Past trauma (referenced, not depicted)

  • A clubhouse arson from ten years earlier in which men died in their sleep, described after the fact by a survivor

  • Human trafficking is referenced as part of the cartel's business; nothing is shown on page and no victims appear

  • The heroine's father was a charming liar who drank; his benders and the damage to her family are mentioned in passing

  • The hero's father is deceased (natural causes, before the book)

  • Grief and mourning in a close community

Everyday life in Perdition

  • Heavy profanity throughout, in both narrators' voices

  • Alcohol use (beer, wine) in social settings

  • Mention of a friend's cancer fundraisers (no character has cancer on page)

  • A dog is in a frightening situation and is completely fine

  • The epilogue ends on a cliffhanger for Book Two involving a school-bus kidnapping seen on the news; the children are missing, nothing violent is shown, and it is not resolved in this book

Heat level

This is an open-door romance with explicit, on-page sex between two consenting adults. Expect frank language, dirty talk, and a possessive alpha hero who says exactly what he wants. There's a birth-control conversation, consent is clear every time, and one early encounter stops when the heroine says so. No kink, no group scenes, no sex with anyone but each other. If you like your MC romance hot and mouthy, you're in the right place.

What's not in this book

  • No sexual assault, on page or in backstory

  • No cheating, and no other-woman or other-man drama

  • No child harm on page (see the epilogue note above)

  • No animal harm

  • No pregnancy or miscarriage

  • No drug use by main characters

  • No cliffhanger on the romance. Dutch and Reagan are settled and happy by the last page; the cliffhanger belongs to the club, and to Book Two

One more thing

I take these seriously because I'd rather lose a sale than blindside a reader. If I've missed something you think belongs on this list, tell me and I'll add it. Otherwise: welcome to Perdition, New Mexico. Keep your hands inside the truck.
